Setup: Prism Launcher
Prism Launcher is the recommended way to play DEVGRU MC. It runs the packwiz installer before every launch, so your mods always match the server.
What you need
Section titled “What you need”- Prism Launcher: https://prismlauncher.org/download/
- A Microsoft (Minecraft) account
- Java 17 (Prism can install or detect this for you; Forge 1.20.1 needs Java 17)
1. Install Prism and sign in
Section titled “1. Install Prism and sign in”- Install Prism Launcher for your operating system.
- On first launch, step through the setup wizard: pick a language, let Prism detect Java, then add your account under Add Microsoft account and sign in. Your username should appear in the top-right.
2. Create the instance
Section titled “2. Create the instance”- Click Add Instance.
- Name it
DEVGRU MC. - Select Minecraft version 1.20.1.
- On the right, choose Forge and pick version 47.4.10. This must match the server exactly. packwiz does not install the loader for you, so you set it here.
- Click OK and let the loader download.
3. Add the packwiz installer
Section titled “3. Add the packwiz installer”- Download
packwiz-installer-bootstrap.jarfrom https://github.com/packwiz/packwiz-installer-bootstrap/releases - Put it in the instance’s Minecraft folder. In Prism, right-click the
instance, choose Folder, then open the
minecraftfolder and drop the jar there.
4. Set the pre-launch command
Section titled “4. Set the pre-launch command”-
Right-click the instance and choose Edit Instance.
-
Go to Settings, then Custom commands.
-
Check the Custom commands box.
-
In the Pre-launch command field, paste this exactly:
"$INST_JAVA" -jar packwiz-installer-bootstrap.jar https://stickman112.github.io/devgru-mc-pack/pack.toml -
Close the edit window. Settings save automatically.
5. Launch
Section titled “5. Launch”The modpack only downloads if the pre-launch command from step 4 is set; launching without it boots Forge with no mods.
- Click Launch.
- A small packwiz installer window appears first and downloads the modpack. The first run takes longer because it fetches every mod; later launches only download what changed.
- Minecraft then boots to the Forge title screen.
